The aim of the project is to develop an optical online measurement system to determine the astaxanthin content in microalgae cultures. It has only been possible for a few years to ensure sustainable (non-petroleum-based) astaxanthin production by the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis with the aid of photobioreactors for microalgae production.
Direct real-time measurement of the target product (astaxanthin space-time yield) will ensure production monitoring and continue to offer enormous potential for optimisation strategies.
