The Alfred Wegener Institute, founded in 1980, conducts research in the Arctic, Antarctic, and the oceans of the mid and high latitudes. It is one of 18 research centers belonging to the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest scientific organization.
At the AWI, the Aquaculture Research Group is part of the Bioeconomy Section and investigates application-oriented issues in aquaculture.
