Working groups from various disciplines conduct research and teach at the University of Oldenburg with a common goal: to develop sustainable approaches to the bioeconomy and implement them together with society. The starting point is the investigation of renewable bio-based raw materials from marine and terrestrial ecosystems, including the use of bio-resources from agriculture, natural aquatic systems, and cultivation systems. Technological developments focus on carbonization processes for a wide range of applications in a bio-based industry. A major focus is on strengthening the circular marine-related bioeconomy. The work is part of regional efforts for sustainable development. Product innovations are designed together with partners from supply chains and value-added networks and evaluated in economic and socio-ecological processes before being launched on the market. Cooperation with European partners is broad-based.
