The Institute for Marine Biotechnology (IMaB) is an institute of the University of Greifswald. The IMaB is engaged in research and development in the field of marine and white biotechnology. Its research program ranges from the isolation of biotechnologically relevant microorganisms, the discovery of bioactive natural substances, the biotechnology of marine symbiosis, Bacillus expression systems, enzyme cascades for polysaccharide degradation, and novel sugar compounds. The IMaB focuses on the functional genome analysis of marine and biotechnologically relevant bacteria. A strategic goal of the institute is the sustainable use of renewable marine bioresources for new bioeconomic applications.
