Max Rubner-Institute (MRI)

The Max Rubner Institute (MRI) is a research institution of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) with locations in Karlsruhe, Kiel, Detmold, and Kulmbach. The MRI focuses its research on consumer health protection in the field of nutrition and advises the BMEL in this area. The Institute for Safety and Quality in Milk and Fish (MF) is located in Kiel. With regard to fishery products, the MF Institute is concerned with ensuring the nutritional and enjoyment value of fish, crustaceans, and mollusks, as well as protecting against health risks. Its main areas of focus are improving product quality and safety along the entire processing chain, characterizing value-determining substances, the influence of feed on product quality/composition, the detection and minimization of undesirable substances, and the development of analytical methods for assessing compositional quality and testing authenticity.
