Prof. Carsten Schulz is Professor of Marine Aquaculture at the Faculty of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences at Kiel University. This position is linked to his role as Scientific Director of the Society for Marine Aquaculture (GMA) in Büsum, which also provides experimental infrastructure.
Aquatic foods are a source of high-quality nutrients (fatty acids, amino acids, vitamins, trace elements, etc.) that are of great importance, and in some cases even essential, for humans and animals. However, the nutritional quality of aquatic raw materials can also be strongly influenced by farming systems and the farming environment. The model systems and their products envisaged in AQUATOR are continuously examined in terms of chemical product quality, and management in the model systems is compared with chemical product quality. Thanks to its many years of expertise in the field of applied aquaculture research, the working group continues to advise various stakeholders and interested parties along the entire aquaculture process chain.
