Beyond the Fillet: The Future of 100% Fish

The fisheries industry is undergoing significant transformation. New technologies, innovative business models and collaboration between science and industry are creating opportunities to use aquatic resources more efficiently, reduce waste and generate additional value. The conference “Beyond the Fillet: The Future of 100% Fish” will explore these developments, focusing on the “100% Fish” approach. This concept aims to utilize as much of each fish as possible while unlocking new economic opportunities. On 30 October 2026, experts from Iceland and Germany will gather at the Felleshus of the Nordic Embassies in Berlin to share experiences, best practices and recent developments in the blue bioeconomy. The programme includes a keynote by Dr. Thor Sigfusson, founder of the Iceland Ocean Cluster, alongside contributions from business, research and innovation. Representatives from organizations including MATÍS, Fraunhofer, Regal Springs, Marós, Kaiserzander and First Water will share insights into their work. The conference will conclude with a panel discussion entitled “From Fish Scale to Commercial Scale”, exploring how innovative approaches can be transformed into commercially viable business models. Julia Lange, coordinator of the Innovation Cluster Bioeconomy at Marine Sites, will also participate in the discussion. A networking reception starting at 18:00 will provide further opportunities for exchange and collaboration. The conference is organized by the Embassy of Iceland in Berlin in cooperation with Fischverband. The event will be held in English.
